About the Awards

The Registered Master Builders Commercial Project Awards is New Zealand’s premier commercial building awards programme. These are the only awards that recognise excellence, quality and innovation in building work including commercial projects – big or small, and this year Carl Taylor Homes entered 2 of its projects into the awards including a striking entry into the “New homes $250,000 - $350,000 category and Commercial projects award for its stunning entry of the new Multi Purpose Room at Broomfield School Amberley.

The judges don’t focus on the quality of the fittings or the design, instead they are interested in how the job has been executed – meaning the workmanship is enduring, of the highest standard and top class. Entry to the competitions is open to all Registered Master Builders and members recognise the awards as important recognition from their peers and an effective way to market their businesses. “The Registered Master Builders Commercial Project Awards is a major industry event” says Carl Taylor Homes Managing Director Carl Taylor, “the awards high profile and the publicity received have contributed noticeably to business success and professional reputation” he says.

All commercial entries are judged by a national commercial project awards judging panel, made up of two judges – one registered master builder and one architect. Entry to the awards is open to any building project that has been completed in the last two years where the job has been managed by a registered master builder

Awards begin at local level, where the judging panel travel throughout New Zealand, marking each entry against a national score card. All entries are assessed using a predetermined scorecard. In judging entries, judges will view the entries and consider design, contract management, construction and of course, overall assessment. In addition there will be a peer review process through the inclusion of one additional judge who will not ‘go on the road’, but will meet with the two judges once all properties have been visited to discuss their recommendations and peer review the final results.

The judging panel allocate local Gold, Silver, Bronze and Category Winner awards accordingly. Category winners are those awarded the highest points against the judge’s scorecard. Each local competition names local awards winners in each of the competition categories at a gala dinner attended by local industry, local and national sponsors, dignitaries, media and homeowners. The Canterbury event was held at the Christchurch Convention Centre in Christchurch on 31st July where Carl Taylor Homes picked up Bronze and Silver awards and Category Award for their entry of Broomfield School, “This certainly is recognition of the whole team” says Carl, “it’s a fantastic achievement and without the efforts of everyone, we could not have been so successful.
